My brother has a bmw X5 2003 that he left sitting in his garage for 6 months. He went to start it, but it wouldnt unlock. there is no place for him to manually unlock the car, no place for the key to go into. Does anyone know how to unlock the car?? Where is the key hole in the drivers side door? We tried removing the cover on the handle of the door, but there was nothing there for us to put the key in..........

A: I assume the battery has completely discharged. There is a key hole on the driver's door only. In the event of an electrical malfunction, turn the key to the extreme left or right to unlock/lock the door. Update- the key hole is right there on the driver's door handle. You can;t miss it unless someone has changed the handles on the vehcile. See attached diagram. If the door handle's been changed you can go through the rear hatch. 1. Remove the plastic plug from inside the cargo area and pull toward the interior. The liftgate will be released

Q: Why is my BMW X5's engine not heating up fast enough in this cold weather?
I'm in Toronto so it's a cold climate during late fall and winters (-10C, etc). I'm noticing that my X5's engine is not heating up, even after a half hour of driving. The gauge will rest at the quarter mark, failing to ever hit the half way mark as it normally does. I have to crank up the heating system to the max value in order to get even a reasonable amount of heat. Why is this happening?

A: Well the thermostat controls how hot the engine gets. It could be stuck open or sticking. Hard to tell when its that cold. But if you could get the car to a warmer place and see if over heats. Also make shure the radiator is full of antifreeze water mix 50 50 .

Q: How to shut off the SOS button on the BMW X5?
I pressed the SOS button next to the moonroof buttons by accident and now I have a msg "BMW Assist Inactive". The radio functions don't work because this msg is there. How can I delete or rest this msg?

A: You need to take it to the dealer to have the button replaced. These were a common issue on some of the BMW's. This has been brought up many times on the BMW msg forums on the net.
